The day has arrived once again: the twenty-first Annual Interactive Fiction Competition is now open for entry registration and prize donation. Please visit www.ifcomp.org to learn all about the competition and register entries.
We just installed a new schedule page, but the most important two dates for entrants at this point are these:
-
All intents to enter must be submitted by September 1 (11:59 PM, Eastern time).
-
All games must be submitted by September 28 (ibid).
As always, we welcome any inquiries you may have about the IFComp via email: ifcomp@ifcomp.org. You may wish to follow the IFComp on Twitter, as well.
Last year was the first under new management in quite some time, so the IFComp has seen a few rules or structural changes since July 1, 2014. Among the most important ones to note:
-
The competition instituted a code of conduct policy last fall. It’s very short, and applies to all participants; if you haven’t read it yet, please do.
Relatedly, our friends at the IF Forums also implemented a code of conduct, and have taken a more proactive stance towards moderation since this time last year, with the aim of making the forums a more welcoming discussion space for all IF fans and creators.
-
Authors’ publicly discussing their entries before the start of the judging period is now explicitly allowed. (Note that the rule barring any pre-judging public release of an entry, whether full or partial, remains in effect.)
-
Authors will be able to update their entries as soon as the competition begins. This facility exists to fix flaws discovered in one’s work after judging begins; it is not intended to allow continued development post-deadline. The IFComp has not changed its stance that authors should not submit incomplete work to the competition.
-
Authors can now preview their games’ online appearance via the website.
Finally, it’s time to build the prize pool again! The IFComp welcomes prizes of most any form or magnitude. If you’d like to donate a prize to the pool, please contact the organizers.
