Visitors to the UK Games Expo last weekend at the NEC in Birmingham were treated to a demonstration of Greywood Publishing's forthcoming randomly-generated dungeon bash game Fighting Fantasy Quest, which is based on the legendary gamebook The Warlock of Firetop Mountain by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. The Warlock: A New Adventure
They say all good things must come to an end, and the world of Fighting Fantasy is no different. Jamie Fry – the redoubtable Warlock himself – is relinquishing his duties as FF webmaster so that he can focus on his Fighting Fantasy Collectors’ Guide. Jamie became webmaster in August 2011, and has been diligent in keeping the website up to date with FF news, and also developing the site’s fan features such as readers’ art and amateur adventures. But fear not, a new webmaster will be announced in the very near future, and with it a new look website. Not only that, Jamie will continue to be involved with the website as a regular contributor with his Collectors’ Guide which can be accessed via FightingFantasy.com. The most recent edition is incredibly comprehensive and is a fantastic achievement. He has discovered FF items which even we had forgotten about! He is keen to continue adding rare FF items to the Collectors’ Guide, and the FF website will continue to support him in his endeavours. If you have not done so already, download a copy of the Collectors’ Guide here. Those of you who have met Jamie at events and conventions will have found him extremely personable and knowledgeable about all things FF. What Jamie doesn’t know about value and rarity of FF books and merchandise isn’t worth knowing!
We would like to thank Jamie for his support and dedication to FF, and for all his hard work on the website over the last 5 years. We wish him all the best with the Collectors’ Guide and look forward to reading the updates on FightingFantasy.com. We’ll be announcing his successor very soon. Watch this space…

Your Adventure Ends Here....Turn to 400
Do you have a favourite ending? Some are better than others and some are more memorable, especially those that leave the future open. I have trawled a few and have settled for the poignant finale in book 50, Return to Firetop Mountain.
“The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is defeated. Still panting heavily from exhaustion following the battle, you stand over the body of Zagor. Many of his stitches have burst open grotesquely. But at least Allansia is saved! You walk up the steps to Zagor’s throne, which is made of solid gold, set with hundreds of jewels. Your fortune is there for the taking. You fill your backpack with treasure and eventually find your way out of the mountain labyrinth…..
……You walk over and roll the body over with your foot. A sudden gasp comes from the villagers; there is a big smile on Zagor’s face and his eyes are wide open, although he is undoubtedly dead. But the thing that worries you most is that his skeletal left arm is missing, and that was the only bit of Zagor that was truly his own. Could that bony stump grow into another incarnation of Zagor? Surely not…”
Casting the Raise the Dead spell on himself clearly has its rewards. In the follow-up book 54, the Legend of Zagor, the sorcerer is slowly but surely regaining his strength in another land and his magical powers knows no bounds.

Creature of Havoc spoilers!
Many readers have approached Steve Jackson about why he made Creature of Havoc so hard to complete. I have posted the known errors to the bottom of the Creature of Havoc page where you will find a collection of feedback Steve himself compiled that hopefully gets you out of and past the dungeons!.

I stumbled across an old article on the SciFiNow Website that asks for you to vote for your favourite top ten Fighting Fantasy books and City of Thieves won the day. Instead of you sharing what your current favourite top ten are (how can you possibly choose!), why not take part in the alternative poll just above this banner at the top of the page. Look around the site and you will find other polls dotted about that you might want to enter as well.

Fighting Fantasy Fact
Straight out of the Jonathan Green's `You are the Hero: History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks', did you know that.........
"Over the years, many people have doubtless wondered about the origin of the name Zagor (pronounced so that the ‘Za’ rhymes with ‘bay’, rather than with ‘baa’). It was Livingstone who came up with the name having been inspired by the moniker attributed to the crossword compiler whose work appeared in Owl & Weasel, Games Workshop’s original gaming fanzine, Zailin.
But who was Zailin? Who else, other than Ian Livingstone? Livingstone devised the puzzles while his then girlfriend was the one who actually typed them up. Zailin was an anagram of their first names, Ian and Liz!"

Ever wondered what Allansia looks like. Well here it is in map form. The original cartographer is Leo Hartas and he did this one for Trolltooth Wars. Leo illustrated many maps for Fighting Fantasy Books.

Over the years the Fighting Fantasy logo has seen many faces. I am sure you'll all agree the original circular logo with the dagger is the most classic. It certainly has seen a few changes and I am sure there are a few other variations but for those that do not know, Fighting Fantasy has been around since 1982 (in print anyway) and this collection is the most popular ones known across the generations.
Latest Update Monday 21st March 2016
Bit of trivia from YOU ARE THE HERO. Steve Jackson may have been the first person to come up with the phrase 'role-playing game'. In early 1976, he wrote a review of En Garde! for Owl & Weasel (Games Workshop's original gaming fanzine). This was a 3 Muskateers quest game which used a gamesmaster. Struggling to find an effective way to describe how the Dungeons & Dragons experience differed from other games, he described it as a "role-playing game".

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Kickstarter update
A re-imagining of the Fighting Fantasy adventures as a rich new digital tabletop RPG with miniatures and multiple character paths.
For The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Kickstarter backers, Tin Man Games are releasing extra material as a bonus on Humble for Android users. In addition to Kickstarter, in just a few days they will also be releasing Steve Jackson's House of Hell on to Steam as well!
They have also commissioned new art from Russ Nicholson and can reveal that one of the images will include Sindla, Titan’s Goddess of Luck, and a brand new monster that has made Firetop Mountain its home since the dwarves left. This latter creature was once bound by the dwarves to work the forges, so it may be a little bit angry!
They’ve also commissioned some new digital miniatures, one of the stretch goals, which include Haldar Eriksson, Ophelia Lapwing and Vignor Firestorm. Fighting Fantasy fans will recognise these heroes as the pre-generated player characters that accompanied the Wizard series 2 edition of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain paperback. Check out Balrum Axecleaver as well.
The Scale of Firetop Mountain in game, with scalable interior, will be something never seen before that will surely enhance what is looking to be an exciting release. This is not all, following negotiation with Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, Tin man are introducing a new Allansian character. Find out more here.

CAMEOS AND RED HERRINGS
In YOU ARE THE HERO - A History of Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks Jonathan Green reflects on cameos.
"For those who are sharp of eye, there's a great deal to take from the myriad illustrations that appear in the Fighting Fantasy book. Take Iain McCaig, for example: "I left both clues and red herrings in the drawings, little things that the astute puzzle-hunter would pick up on. Occasionally, I also snuck things in just to see if anyone would notice, like the image of the howling prisoner with the severed hand in Deathtrap Dungeon, which is actually a portrait of Ian Livingstone." Following McCaig's lead other artists began to put Jackson and Livingstone into their pictures."
Where else have you seen the legends immortalised in the gamebooks or where else have you been duped by an image? e-mail the Warlock with your finds. mail@fightingfantasy.com
