i think fight defensively is already potent and doesn't need any help, as per skinny orc above.
the issue I have with the move is that the increase of x5 speed is incredibly quick in game terms (not IRL terms).
I mean if I move fast I can still do things just not that well, I am not at 5 times my usual speed and I don't think giving me a bonus against ranged attacks is a balancing element.
possibly a penalty to certain things (dodge rolls or other rolls to avoid the unexpected, say traps? maybe also to defences against melee attacks: it is harder to aim a bow at someone moving fast, but not actually harder when using a sword as it means they leave themselves open more) but still a bonus to others (such as the ranged attack).
also it creates an issue in terms of the pursuit rules which, I think, work as they are: if I "run" in a round do we use the pursuit rules now?
I am currently 4 rounds away from any physical melee assault unless my opponent also runs to catch up, if I do this another time do we then use the pursuit rules?
at what point does "running for one round to get into a better position" become "running away lets use the pursuit rules"?
I have a similar issue in other games where you can do a move and an action (say an attack) and the attack is equally accurate to just making an attack: my personal experience is that moving my normal speed and making an attack at the end is much less effective compared to just standing toe to toe and making an attack.
(in fact I can make a few in the time it takes me to walk a short distance and make one swing at the end of that distance)
much as I personally dislike real life comparisons to games mechanics some of them stick out like a sore thumb to me and this "move fast for no penalty beyond not attacking and get a bonus too" is one of them (sorry)
