For anyone who hasn't spotted it, one of the best uses of the fighting defensively option is for a low attack strength character to keep an opponent busy, so their high AS buddy avoids an outnumbering point against them and can get the killing done faster.

Or to put it another way, the roll is for a series of lunges, swings, parries, jumps and hopefully timely ducks, and the result for the round is a summary of all that.
