Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2 • new on the boards

Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2 • new on the boards

http://ift.tt/2e5HmqX

hi everyone, i'm new to this board, having just got the AFF2 rulebook and the Heroes expansion.

I played dungeoneer through the original 3 part adventure and continued playing that system for a good few years before getting into other games (Warhammer, blood bowl, Warhammer quest, D&D, deadlands and a few others).
these days I've just stopped playing RPG's due to time to write adventures and have spent more time on other games (still play fortnightly games of Warhammer quest as it does not require much in the way of writing up) I now mostly play board and card games instead (king of Tokyo, saboteur, dead of winter, star realms, coup and more).

then I found out that AFF2 was in existence and here I am!

currently writing a sandbox-style adventure based in a village which was a mining town before the mines ran dry. essentially my GM style is to write and create an area which has adventure hooks aplenty (kind of influenced these days by skyrim and fallout games, but this is how I used to play dungeoneer too) and see where the players take themselves.
tried this with 4E D&D but it involves too much planning monsters, encounters and other stuff, whereas AFF I can just use random tables and stuff and can "wing it" much easier.

do people use maps or similar when you play for combat or do you just describe it and let players explain what they do?
I ask because i'm so used to using battle maps, but I've experienced some players being unable to roleplay when maps and minis are involved.
(not decided on my group of players yet, trying to involve new players in our gaming group)

short version: hello, planning an adventure, will likely post bits of it as it is finished so others can use/steal/whatever as they see fit :P
