Redeemer! – Attempt 1, Part 6

I move right up to this fabled stalagmite, and see that it has been etched with runes, indicating that this is indeed The ‘Forbidden Sanctuary’ (as compared to, say, the ‘Fragrant Garden of Bluebells and Somersaults’).

The stalagmite is so enormous that it is essentially a structure in and of itself, with windows and doors.  As I casually look around for a doorbell, I casually note THAT THERE IS A MASSIVE SPIDER CRAWLING ACROSS THE CEILING OF THIS CAVERN.

Yikes.  Black Widow, I presume?  (unless the Widow has a twisted ‘good’ twin, who crawls around catching nasty flies and spinning beautiful tapestries).

Just because things weren’t precarious enough, there’s a host of miniature little nasties crawling along the floor beneath the Widow.  They probably haven’t heard about how minions of the main villain usually end up in these adventures.

I quickly vault to a window, avoid the strands of web that act as a crude alarm, and enter.

Before I started getting cocky, I am able to feel my little spider passenger wriggling excitedly in my brain.

You just really want me to use another spider picture as a featured image, don’t you?

I have to creep through a corridor, and wade through (un)holy water.  If I hadn’t already lost a point due to the Amulet of Nullaq, I’d lose a point of Inner Force.  Um, good, I think?

I reach a T-junction and can either :

  1. Turn left towards a ‘wheezing’ sound;
  2. Turn right towards a patch of blood.

Hmm.

The patch of blood is obviously from either someone I either know or will now have to fight (cf. Chekhov’s Gun).  The wheezing sound could be a person or some kind of device or mechanism.

If the blood is from a friend (Glaivas, Dore or one of the stooges), they undoubtedly need my help.  If it is from an enemy, the best time to confront them is while they are wounded and weakened.

Right it is!

I walk past an alcove, concealed by a gray curtain.  The blood stains continue into the alcove.  There are also muffled noises behind the curtain.  I can continue on, or cut a small hole in the curtain to have a peek.

Whoever is in there, I shouldn’t leave them at my back.  I try to penetrate the curtain.  Plus, its certainly the more ninja thing to do!

Tyutchev and Thaum are inside this small shrine, looting golden ornaments.  They are disguised as evil worshippers (although even undisguised I would say that’s a valid description of them).

I can ignore them, steal a robe and continue, start a fire to hopefully draw the attention of local security, or simply carry on.

I am again wary of leaving enemies behind me while I continue on, and I always like the idea of my various enemies getting into a deadly scuffle without my involvement.

I therefore start a fire, though if I remember my tropes, this kind of thing usually rages out of control burning the entire enemy base down.

And that would be a plus!

I set fire to a tapestry, and then hide in the shadows at footsteps approach.

Crazy, you say?  Maybe crazy enough to work!!

Uh-oh – Fate roll required….8!!

Half a dozen guards rush past, and I am asked to note that I have avenged (ahem!) myself on Tyutchev and Thaum.  Not quite as satisfying as a Shuriken TO THE FACE but I’ll take what I can get at this point.

I struggle unsuccessfully to contain a smile as I creep along the corridor back to the left
