The Digital Antiquarian: Cliff Johnson’s Fool’s Errand

One sunny day, a light-hearted fool strolled along a hilly path, whistling a merry tune. A long wooden pole was slung over his shoulder and attached to it was a cloth bundle which carried his life’s possessions. “What a marvelous afternoon!” he exclaimed to no one in particular, pausing to appreciate the lovely countryside. Soon […]

Renga in Blue: IFComp 2015: Brain Guzzlers from Beyond!

By Steph Cherrywell. Finished using Gargoyle with two hints. You are a girl (Bonnie) in a generic 50s town (Canyonville) and your boyfriend was just eaten by a monster. The game is oriented as if the characters are in an actual 50s B-movie, with occasional references in the parser itself. > (We’re still rolling here!) […]

Undo Restart Restore: IFComp 2015 review: Seeking Ataraxia

Seeking Ataraxia is a choice-based game that describes a couple of ordinary days in the life of a university student who suffers from OCD and anxiety. The game is a bit buggy and inconsistent in some details, for example the protagonist's apartment keeps reverting overnight from cleaner than it has ever been to total mess, Continue reading IFComp 2015 review: Seeking Ataraxia →

The Digital Antiquarian: A New Force in Games, Part 2: A Habitat in Cyberspace

Shortly before the departure of Peter Langston from the Lucasfilm Games Group, he and Steve Arnold hired one Chip Morningstar as a tools programmer. The latter was coming off a stint spent working for Ted Nelson, a sort of philosopher of information management who had coined the terms “hypertext” and “hypermedia” back in the 1960s. […]
