For the full impact of the Tucker's Kobolds thing it might be better without magic. If the players are getting their arses handed to them by a pack of scrawny runts using nothing but smart tactics and a lot of prep its all the more humiliating. The trick would be doing it without it seeming unfair or railroady. Natural caves probably work better than room-corridor dungeons for it because the network of gremlin size tunnels cris-crossing the big tunnels would be less obvious.

If you were giving them magic the group magic idea sounds fun. Is that from the Gremlins movies? Don't remember those too well. But anyway, they meet one or two first to see how laughable they are, then meet the main group and learn the meaning of gremlin vengeance!
